Current Grantees

SoulRiver, Inc.
Soul River (SRI) brings veterans as mentors and inner-city youth together into the wild rivers of nature, harnessing incredible opportunities and experiences that forge strong connections between youth and veterans, their communities, and the natural world. SRI unites youth and veterans on challenging yet rewarding adventures at zero cost where they become part of something bigger, developing into strong leaders in the outdoors and their communities.

The Peaceful Presence Project
Peaceful Presence provides non-medical, thoughtful support to individuals and families facing serious and terminal illness. Their public health approach to palliative care believes that we all have a part to play in supporting our neighbors, family and friends in the last stage of life. They offer education to improve death and grief literacy, holistic and proactive planning for advanced illness care, and compassionate bedside presence.

Spirit Awakening Foundation
Spirit Awakening Foundation is an arts-based nonprofit dedicated to helping underserved youth and children in the juvenile justice system realize their value, worth, and spirituality. Using the tools of meditation, self-reflection, creative writing, visual arts, mentorship, service, and leadership training, all of which have been guided by evidence-based research, SAF is able to accomplish their mission to help underserved youth build character and raise self-esteem.

Sacred Earth Foundation
Sacred Earth Foundation’s mission is to activate children and adults to love the earth deeply and wisely, through stewardship of the Rock Creek watershed, authentic community experience, and place-based education. They integrate nature connection, equine guided learning, gardening and food education, ranch chores, creative projects, and conservation work into a cohesive experience that inspires a lifetime of empowered engagement.

GrowGood
GrowGood works with the Bell Shelter to develop a garden-based program for 500-550 residents that uses healthy food and gardening as a catalyst for healing. GrowGood also offers a transitional employment program for residents interested in job training via working in the garden, and provides therapeutic support for residents suffering from PTSD, depression, and other illnesses that make their ability to live a stable life challenging.

Humane Prison Hospice Project
The Humane Prison Hospice Project transforms the way prisoners die, through education, advocacy, and training to support fellow prisoners as caregivers and grief companions. They facilitate end-of-life care training and also a program called Brother’s Keepers, a peer support training program housed at San Quentin State Penitentiary, focused on crisis intervention and suicide prevention.
